Dr. Camesia Matthews

After graduating from George Washington University with her Bachelor of Science, Dr. Matthews earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery from Howard University. Throughout her time there, she participated in several community outreach programs, played a key role in numerous publications, and held multiple leadership positions. Now, she’s happy to use everything she learned to provide our patients in and around Shrewsbury with the absolute best care. Outside of dentistry, some of her interests include playing piano and reading.

Dr. Shadi Haidar

Dr. Haidar’s journey to becoming the compassionate and experienced dentist he is today began at the University of Massachusetts Boston. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, he chose to pursue his dental doctorate at Boston University Dental School. He genuinely loves helping patients who struggle with anxiety or fear surrounding dental care have the positive and calm experience they deserve. He’s also fluent in both English and Arabic, and he’d be happy to speak with you in whichever language you prefer. On the evenings and weekends, he enjoys staying active through sports like swimming, as well as spending lots of time with his family.

Frequently Asked Questions, Answered!

How do I get emergency dental care?

Whether you’re struggling with a painful toothache, your dental crown feels loose, or you’ve knocked out one of your teeth, if you need to schedule an emergency visit, then the best thing to do is call our dental office near Shrewsbury. In addition to scheduling an appointment for you, we will talk you through how to handle your dental injury in the meantime to prevent feelings of overwhelm and stress.

Important note: If you are having trouble breathing, you’ve sustained a serious laceration that is bleeding uncontrollably, or you’re experiencing any other potentially life-threatening symptoms, then you should go to the ER.

How many dentists are in Shrewsbury?

According to Google, the population was around 38,000 in 2020. Since there is typically one dentist for every 2,000 people, there are likely around 19 dentists in the area. Initially, that might seem like plenty to choose from, but then you need to consider factors that are important to you as a patient, like convenient hours, whether or not they welcome dental insurance, and if they offer the service you’re interested in. Fortunately, our team at University Dental Group is open five days a week, we’re insurance-friendly, and we offer a wide range of treatments in one convenient location!

What do you do if you can't afford a dentist?

Sometimes, patients put off scheduling an appointment because they are worried about the cost. While doing so may seem like a good choice for your wallet, it isn’t. After all, the more time that passes, the worse the root of the problem will get. So, if you find yourself in this situation, don’t take the “wait and see” approach. Instead, schedule an appointment with us so we can learn about your symptoms, conduct an oral exam, and determine if any restorative care is necessary. If it is, then we will review all of the financial solutions available – from dental insurance to our periodic special offers – so we can find a way to make the treatment you need fit into your budget.

What level of education is required to be a dentist?

The first step in the path to becoming a dentist is obtaining an undergraduate degree and being accepted to one of only 67 accredited dental schools in the U.S. Then, the aspiring dentist must complete three years of in-classroom and hands-on training to learn everything they need to know about maintaining, restoring, and enhancing their patient’s smiles. Even after they graduate with their Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS) degree, their education and training aren’t over because they need to complete continuing education hours each year to maintain their license!
